Dur-Red (Activar) roof hatches and safety railings from Logistics Lighting
Dur-Red Products has built roof hatches in Los Angeles since 1960 and makes the hatch safety railings and ladder safety posts that complete them on commercial roofs. Logistics Lighting distributes the Dur-Red products listed above, quotes the hatch with the railing and post that complete the access point, and ships direct from the factory.
What we carry from Dur-Red
Dome ladder hatch. The RHUVA 30 x 36 is a domed ladder hatch with an aluminum self-flashing frame, double clear-over-white polycarbonate 19 inch square domes, 1 inch insulation and a mill finish. Because the cover is glazed, it lets daylight down the ladder well, which a solid steel hatch does not. It is railing ready and exits on the length.
Hatch safety railing. The RSRWB safety railing fits the 30 x 36 hatch and includes a self-closing gate on the 30 inch side. Note that the Dur-Red railing is supplied only in galvanized mill finish; it is not aluminum and is not offered in yellow powder coat, so specifications that call for a yellow aluminum rail should look at the Bilco or Babcock Davis railings instead.
Ladder safety post. The LP-4 safety post mounts to the top of a fixed ladder and extends above the hatch opening so the climber has a handhold stepping on and off the ladder.
Code notes
OSHA's minimum roof hatch opening is 30 x 30 inches, so the 30 x 36 RHUVA meets it with room for tools. OSHA 1910.28 treats an open hatch as a hole in the roof, which is why every hatch should be quoted with a guardrail and self-closing gate, and 1910.23 covers the fixed ladder below it, including the extension above the landing that the safety post provides. Drawings are on the roof hatch and ladder spec sheets page, and the FAQ answers common hatch and ladder questions.
Where Dur-Red fits in our catalog
Choose Dur-Red when you want daylight through the hatch cover or a galvanized railing. For steel and thermally broken aluminum hatches with yellow aluminum railings, compare Bilco (the S-20 and S-50TB) and Babcock Davis; for fixed ladders and a non-penetrating hatch guardrail, see Kattsafe. All roof access products are on the roof access and fall protection page.
