Description
The Taylon 4896 ULSV is a UL-listed automatic smoke vent for the standard 4 x 8 curb. On an ordinary day it is a single-glazed daylighting skylight with Taylon's white Diamond Series polycarbonate dome; in a fire the fusible link releases the latch and gas shocks lift the dome frame open to vent smoke and heat, as UL 793 and NFPA 204 require. The curb frame, hinge, shock brackets and gutter are G90 galvanized steel. Logistics Lighting confirms the curb fit, quotes the vent with the link temperature and release you need, and ships direct from Taylon.
Key features of the 4896 ULSV
- UL listed. UL file E533253, complies with UL 793; meets NFPA 204 and California and international fire codes.
- Daylighting every day. White Diamond Series dome with 80 percent VLT, 0.58 SHGC and 100 percent diffusion, so the vent also lights the floor.
- Automatic and manual release. Fusible link options of 165, 212, 286, 370 or 520 F; inside, outside or both manual release handles.
- Rated. 1,000 lb impact, 130 mph wind, 10 psf (30 psf unit available), roof Class 90, CC1 polycarbonate.
- Galvanized hardware. G90 steel curb frame, dome frame, hinge assembly, shock brackets and gutter; EPDM bulb gasket; aluminum dome cap.
- Made in the USA.
Specifications
- Nominal size 4 x 8; inside curb dimension 48 x 96 in; fits a 51 x 99 in outside curb (set in continuous sealant by others)
- Glazing: single white Diamond Series polycarbonate dome; dual glazing and metal lids available
- Frame and mechanism: G90 galvanized steel curb frame, dome frame, hinge, upper and lower shock brackets, lifting shocks, latch and striker assemblies, exterior release handles
- Fusible link: 165, 212, 286, 370 (standard on this unit) or 520 F, UL/FM
- Ratings: UL 793 (E533253), NFPA 204, 1,000 lb impact, 130 mph, 10 psf, Class 90
- Weight: about 157 lb
- Options: MAXAIR vented base (see the ULVSV), self-flashing model; other sizes 4848, 4872, 6072 and 6467
Where the ULSV fits
Choose the ULSV when the code calls for a UL-listed smoke vent and the budget favors a single-dome polycarbonate unit. If the building also needs everyday airflow, the 4896 ULVSV puts the same vent on a MAXAIR vented base. Double-glazed alternatives are the Sunoptics SSVT 4080 and the Kingspan ULSV line; melt-out vents with no mechanism are on the smoke vents page. Because the ULSV is operable it accepts interior safety screens only.
Frequently asked questions
Which fusible link should I order? 165 F is common in unheated buildings, 212 F where the roof gets hot, and 370 F where the authority having jurisdiction requires it; match the sprinkler head rating if the fire protection engineer specifies one.
Can it be reset after it opens? Yes. The dome is closed, latched and fitted with a new fusible link.
Exterior or interior screen? Interior only. An exterior screen would block the dome from opening.
How to get a quote
Send the smoke vent worksheet or call 307-633-9696 with quantity, curb outside dimension, link temperature, release option and ship-to address. We confirm the current Taylon lead time on the quote. The cut sheet, data sheet and three-part specification are in the Documents tab.
