Taylon Skylights and Smoke Vents: ISP, ISP2, ISPV, ULSV and ULVSV Explained

Taylon Skylights · Skylight and Smoke Vent Guide

By the Logistics Lighting team · Updated November 2026

Taylon Skylights builds curb mount polycarbonate skylights and UL listed smoke vents around its white Diamond Series dome. We list five Taylon units in the 4896 size, three skylights (ISP, ISP2 and ISPV) and two smoke vents (ULSV and ULVSV), plus the FPBA fall protection bar set. All five units fit a curb that measures 51 x 99 inches outside. This guide explains the model codes, how the units differ, and which curb and screen goes with each.

What the Taylon model codes mean

The number is the size: 4896 is a 48 x 96 inch inside curb dimension, a nominal 4 x 8 foot opening. The letters name the product. Taylon's documents do not spell out each letter, so the table matches each model to the title on its own data sheet.

ISP: the standard skylight

The 4896 ISP has a 0.065 inch extruded aluminum frame with welded corners, a welded dome retaining cap, an integral condensate gutter with weep holes, and an EPDM gasket. The ISP data sheet lists Performance Grade 40, a 126 mph wind speed rating, an 800 lb impact rating, a Class IV hail rated dome, CC1 polycarbonate, and 80 percent visible light transmittance. For the single dome, Taylon's specification calls for a solar heat gain coefficient of 0.58 or less and gives a U-factor of 0.80.

ISP2: the double dome

The 4896 ISP2 adds a clear inner dome under the white Diamond Series dome, in a mill finish aluminum frame. Our listing describes it as ICC compliant and meeting the 800 lb impact test, and the submittal drawing lists clear, white, bronze or other as outer dome choices. Choose it when the project calls for a dual glazed skylight. The light and heat gain values in Taylon's skylight specification are written for the single dome, so ask us for dual glazed values before you specify.

ISPV: daylight plus ventilation

The 4896 ISPV puts the ISP skylight on a G90 galvanized louvered base that, in Taylon's words, provides natural gravity ventilation for non-conditioned buildings. The vented base data sheet lists 11 square feet of ventilation, an integrated rain shield, and a bird screen, insect screen and dust filter as standard.

ULSV and ULVSV smoke vents

The 4896 ULSV is a UL 793 listed smoke vent with a single glazed Diamond Series dome, a galvanized steel frame, a 370 fusible link and an exterior manual release. The cut sheet shows two hinged lids on lifting shocks and offers links of 165, 212, 286 or 370 with a manual release inside, outside or both. The data sheet lists a 130 mph wind speed rating and NFPA 204 compliance. Taylon's specification says the link temperature should be whatever the authority having jurisdiction requires, so confirm it before ordering.

The 4896 ULVSV is the same vent on a Max Flow venting base with a rain guard and insect screens. Its specification adds a bird screen and dust filter and gives 11 square feet of ventilation for a 4 x 8 unit. Pick the ULVSV when the building needs daily airflow as well as fire venting, and the ULSV for fire venting only.

Curbs, screens and fall protection

Curbs

Each unit is fabricated to fit a 51 x 99 inch curb outside dimension. The drawings show the curb, anchors, shims, sealant and roofing as by others. These 4896 curbs we list measure 51 x 99 outside:

The AES 4896 ARC6 measures 51.5 x 99.5 outside, so check it against the unit first.

Screens

The 4896 FPBA is a mill finish aluminum bar set. In the Taylon test report, the bars were fastened through the curb flashing with #10 x 2 inch hex head fasteners. Static loads of 200, 400 and 800 lb left no visible damage, and a 200 lb bag dropped from 4 feet left permanent deflection with no breakage. Bar spacing rules vary by jurisdiction, so check local code.

Smoke vents are different. Operable smoke vents can only use interior safety screens; exterior screens are not permitted. The Curbs Plus 4896 Z-frame interior safety screen mounts under the unit and fits a 48 x 96 inch curb inside dimension. If the curb has a built in screen, tell us the unit is a smoke vent so we can confirm the screen clears the vent hardware.

Taylon's specification says skylights are not intended to withstand human impact and should not be walked on. See OSHA fall protection for skylights.

Installation and care notes

  • Remove the protective film from the domes as soon as possible and never store covered domes in the sun. The specification says doing so voids the warranty.
  • Clean with non-abrasive methods and approved cleaning agents only. Other agents may crack or craze the dome.
  • After installing a smoke vent, remove the shipping screws and test it with the exterior manual release. Maintain it under NFPA 204, Chapter 12.
  • Taylon's specifications call for a 10 year warranty on the skylight frame and domes, and 10 years from installation on smoke vents.

Other sizes

We list the 4896 online. The Taylon data sheets also show 4848 (51 x 51 outside), 4872 (51 x 75) and 6072 (63 x 75), plus 6467 (67 x 70) for smoke vents and the FPBA, and note that more sizes are available.

FAQ

What curb does a Taylon 4896 fit?

One that is 48 x 96 inches inside and 51 x 99 inches outside. The unit is built to the outside dimension.

Can I put FPBA bars on a ULSV smoke vent?

No. Operable smoke vents take interior safety screens only, such as the Z-frame.

What is the difference between the ISPV and the ULVSV?

Both have a vented base. The ISPV is a skylight. The ULVSV is a UL 793 listed smoke vent that opens automatically when its fusible link releases.
