Description
The Taylon 4896 FPBA is an aluminum fall protection bar set that mounts on the curb under a 4 x 8 skylight or smoke vent so the opening meets OSHA 1910.28 without a heavy steel screen. Half-inch aluminum cross bars in a mill finish give a 1,000 lb impact rating at about 15 lb per unit, against roughly 66 lb for an equivalent steel screen, which is a real difference when a crew is carrying fifty of them across a roof. Logistics Lighting quotes the FPBA with the skylight or vent it protects and ships direct from Taylon.
Key features of the 4896 FPBA
- OSHA compliant. Meets the 1910.28 requirement to guard skylights 4 feet or more above a lower level, at the 1,000 lb impact rating.
- Light. About 15 lb in aluminum; Taylon calls it the most cost-effective fall protection bar available.
- Interior mount. Sits on the curb beneath the unit, so it works under operable smoke vents that cannot take an exterior screen.
- Fire code. Meets California and international fire codes.
- Options. Custom sizes and powder-coated steel versions available; made in the USA.
Specifications
- Model 4896 FPBA: for a 48 x 96 in inside curb (51 x 99 in outside)
- Material: 1/2 in aluminum cross bars, mill finish
- Impact rating: 1,000 lb
- Weight: about 15 lb
- Other sizes: 4848, 4872, 6072 and 6467; custom sizes on request
Where the FPBA fits
Use the FPBA under the Taylon ISP, ISP2 and ISPV skylights and the ULSV and ULVSV smoke vents, or under any 4 x 8 curb-mount unit. Alternatives are the Curbs Plus Z-frame interior screens, Kingspan's SSCRN screens and, for fixed skylights only, exterior screens such as the Sunoptics ESFP 4080. The full list is on the roof access and fall protection page, and our FAQ covers the OSHA load requirement.
Frequently asked questions
Interior or exterior? The FPBA is an interior bar set. Operable smoke vents must use interior protection because an exterior screen blocks the dome from opening.
Can it be added to an existing skylight? Yes, if the curb has room below the unit for the bars to seat; send the curb dimensions and the skylight model.
What does OSHA require? A skylight screen or guard must support at least 400 lb or twice the intended load; the FPBA is rated to 1,000 lb.
How to get a quote
Send the fall protection worksheet or call 307-633-9696 with the number of openings, the curb size and the unit each bar will sit under. We confirm fit and the current Taylon lead time on the quote. The data sheet and test results are in the Documents tab.
