Description
The Bilco RL2-STB is the Bil-Guard 2.0 roof hatch rail system for thermally broken 36 x 30 inch Bilco hatches such as the S-50TB. The rails, self-closing gate and safety yellow finish are the same as the RL2-S; the difference is the mounting bracket set, which is made for the capflashing of the thermally broken hatch. Like every Bil-Guard, it attaches to the flashing without penetrating the roof and meets OSHA 29 CFR 1910.29. Logistics Lighting quotes it together with the S-50TB and the LU-1 safety post and ships direct from Bilco.
Key features of the RL2-STB
- Made for thermally broken hatches. Bracket geometry matches the S-50TB capflashing so the rail sits square and the gate swings clear of the cover.
- No roof penetration. Brackets clamp to the flashing; the membrane and the roofing warranty are untouched.
- Self-closing gate with positive latch. Type 316 stainless hinges keep a continuous barrier around the opening.
- Safety yellow powder coat for visibility; other colors as a special order.
- Five-year warranty on materials and workmanship.
Specifications
- Fits: Bilco thermally broken 36 x 30 in hatches (S-50TB); gate on the 30 inch side
- Posts and rails: 1-1/4 in 6061-T6 Schedule 40 aluminum pipe
- Mounting brackets: 3/8 in extruded aluminum, sized for the thermally broken flashing
- Post guides and latch: cast aluminum; fasteners and hinges Type 316 stainless
- Compliance: OSHA 29 CFR 1910.29 with a factor of safety of two
- Supplied as a field-assembled kit with instructions
Which Bil-Guard do I need?
Match the rail to the hatch. Standard steel, aluminum and stainless 36 x 30 hatches (S-20, S-50, S-90) take the RL2-S. Thermally broken hatches (S-50TB) take the RL2-STB. If the hatch is a different size or an automatic fire vent, tell us the model and we will quote the correct Bil-Guard 2.0 variant. Babcock Davis offers the equivalent SRBAY36X30FG for its ThermalMAX hatch.
Frequently asked questions
Is the RL2-STB insulated or thermally broken itself? No. It is a guardrail; "TB" means it is the version that fits thermally broken hatches.
Do I also need a safety post? OSHA 1910.23 requires the ladder to extend 42 inches above the landing or an equivalent grab. The LU-1 provides that handhold through the hatch.
Can I order the rail and hatch together? Yes, and we recommend it so the brackets, hatch and post arrive as a matched set.
How to get a quote
Send the ladder and hatch worksheet or call 307-633-9696 with the hatch model and quantity. We confirm the current Bilco lead time on the quote and coordinate delivery. The cut sheet, installation manual and three-part specification are in the Documents tab.
